    8 things to do when it’s raining in Wollongong 

    “It’s raining, it’s pouring, the old man is snoring!” What do you do on rainy days with the kids? Definitely not singing this song all day long! 

    If you are trying to escape the rain with your kids on a rainy Sunday morning or Saturday afternoon, a family trip to the museum or to an indoor playground will do the trick! 

    We listed 8 fun wet weather destinations in the Illawarra region and Wollongong CBD area for you to visit.

    1. Go to the movies.

    Greater Union cinema in Wollongong offers many great children films. You can check the schedules for kids-friendly movies and kids-friendly times here.

    2. Visit a museum.

    Take the kids to Wollongong Art Gallery. Kids are never too young to be introduced to the world of art, culture and history. This is a great place to go to. 

    3. Head to your local library.

    Find some great children’s books at your local library and read your little one a great story. Your library might even offer story time. Check out all the libraries in your area here.

    4. Go to a kids friendly cafe.

    Hoping to kill two birds with one stone? Take the kids and your pals to a kids friendly cafe. Enjoy a fresh meal and some good conversations with your friends whilst the kids play in the cafe’s play area. 

    5. Jump to an indoor playground.

    There are no better places than indoor playgrounds on rainy days. Here’s a few to visit: Tell me a tale (Oak Flats), Ready Set Play (Albion Park), Fun times 4 Kidz (Menai), Eight Fox Avenue (Wollongong). 

    6. Go swimming!

    You can still be wet and have fun, right? You could spend a couple of hours in an indoor swimming pool like Beaton Park Leisure Centre.

    7. Shop ‘n play!

    Wollongong Central offers a bit of everything: You can shop for a bit and then reward the kids with icecream and the centre’s indoor playground. 

    8. Go for a bush walk.

    Who said rain is not great if you are dressed properly? Some kids and family love the rain! Dress yourself and the kids with raincoats and rain boots and enjoy nature and the beauty of rain! The Royal National park offers many great walks. “Anyone who says sunshine brings pure happiness has never danced in the rain!”
